continue the white subway tile on the walls similar sized bathroom like yours. Like most rocks, granite is naturally porous. It also has a density of 168 pounds per cubic foot, which makes it denser and harder than marble. Granite is a composite material with a hardness of 6.5 on the Mohs scale. using a white subway in the shower, and a black marble basketweave tile on the floor, would also give you the nice contrast. Believe it or not, marble is also somewhat porous, which allows it to absorb water, if not sound. and if you dye your hair, it will stain the marble) Better to use the real marble on the floor outside, or on the countertop. you can only use marble safe cleaners or else it will etch horribly. it's a pain to have to baby when it comes time to clean. you could also do something like this, but just use regular white tile (I'd caution you using real marble in the shower. or, do a black tile herringbone for the wall, white vanity, black/white marble floor. do the entire wall in a white tile herringbone and have it extend over into the shower. for contrast you can do a black vanity, or black countertop just look at the walls/floor. Or, do a regular wainscot w/vinyl MDF and paint it white. you can choose to to a 'tile wainscot' on the wall. the countertop was a $50 remnant, the marble sink was on closeout for $30) If you know how to shop, you can find great deals. the vanity was a vintage chest I painted and made into a vanity. So you're going to tear out everything? on a rental we have I did the entire thing in carrara marble and black marble (most of this tile and extras I found on craigslist.
